Canon Underwater Camera Cases Leave ‘Em High & Dry

Does the thought of taking your very expensive digital camera 200 feet underwater send shivers down your spine? I know it does for me. Although, having seen some truly incredible underwater shots, it’s hard not to wonder if it’s worth the risk. After looking around a bit, I’ve found some underwater camera cases that are truly magnificent feats of engineering and design. That’s not to say they all are. Some, I wouldn’t trust in my kids wading pool. But the really good ones are quite remarkable.

It’s kind of hard to believe, but there are third party companies, that manufacture underwater cases that allow for complete camera functionality up to 200 feet below the water surface. The engineering of the cases almost rivals that of the the camera itself. Imagine being able to operate all of the those tiny camera controls in a dive suit with your camera totally enclosed in a very durable but see through polycarbonate casing. External controls protrude through the casing, and make physical contact with the camera controls inside the casing. While the other end of those same controls provide user buttons and dials that can be operated in a totally immersible marine environment. They’re not cheap mind you, quality products never are.

At first handling, the camera case seems heavy and unwieldy out of the water. Once they have a camera inside, and are submersed, they become quite neutrally buoyant. Which is of course what every diver knows is essential for a good dive. The less effort spend controlling your equipment, the more air you’ll have for a longer dive. The camera controls via the cases extension controls are very accessible, and for the most part work effortlessly. The one exception, being the zoom control on some models. It’s a little tricky to get used to, but considering the way Canon implements their zoom feature, it’s probably the best one could hope for.

If there is to be a weak point with any camera housing (underwater or otherwise), it will be with the seals and gaskets. These casings use a rather effective but simple O-ring design. It’s both easy to use, and easy to check. Since the case is a clear polycarbonate any leakage is very easy to detect. What your going to do about a leak at 150 feet under the water surface, I don’t know. You certainly wouldn’t want to ascend any faster than safety permits for the sake of a camera. Even a very expensive one. Just hope the leak is slow.

How do I get my photos off my digital camera? For some, this is an obvious question with an obvious answer. But as digital camera purchases continue to grow in leaps and bounds as more people convert from traditional 35mm to digital, new users may be confused about the many options. Here is a review of the various ways to get your digital photos off your camera and printed.

Via Software and USB Cable

Digital cameras usually come with software that you install on your computer. It launches a program that prompts you to transfer your photos directly from your camera to your PC using a USB cable. Photo editing and photo management software like ACDSee Photo Editor and Adobe Photoshop Elements also feature prompts to transfer your images to your computer. You can choose to have your photos automatically erases from your camera’s memory card afterward, or you can do it manually later. Once your photos are on your computer, you can organize them in folders and rename them just like you would with any other files on your computer, as well as use photo editing software to crop or enhance the images. Then you can either print them on your own color printer or upload them to an online digital photo service for printing.

Via PictBridge

Many cameras have a “PictBridge” feature which means you can connect your camera directly to your printer via USB cable and bypass a computer completely. You can print your photos immediately.

Camera Docking Station

Some cameras have a docking station that connects via USB port to your computer. You just put your camera in the docking station and your photos will transfer automatically.

Memory Card

There are several methods here. If your computer or printer has a memory card slot (many newer ones do) you can take your memory card out of your camera and insert it into the appropriate slot and transfer them that way. Another method is to take your memory card out and take it to your local drug store or photo store to review and print them at the photo kiosk.

Upload your Photos to Online Photo Service

Online photo processors offer simple, free software programs to help you upload your photos to their site either directly from your camera or from your computer. You can use their editing tools to crop or adjust color and contrast and then order prints for home delivery. Some services even offer in-store pick-up.

There are so many options for getting your photos out of your camera and printed. Don’t let your memories languish in your camera-get them printed so you can see and relive them!

Digital Photography Cameras Online For Sale

When I first decided that I wanted to become a photographer, I knew one of the most important things was choosing the right camera. There are several thousand different cameras. You can choose from from compact, SLR, to some of the top dogs such as Hasselblad! Of course if you’re a new photographer like I was and you’re to be considered amateur, not a hobbyist then there are several different ones I think you should take a look at. First and foremost Canon, Nikon, Fuji and Olympus are four of the very top camera brands you should be looking at if you’re interested in photography. These cameras range from $100 on up to $900 depending on what brand you get. Canon and Nikon are of course two of the most popular camera brands, Fuji and Olympus come in second.

For my first camera, I decided to buy and Olympus SP-510 UZ, a lot of people said this wouldn’t be the right camera for me simply because it was really jumping into the deep end without a life preserver! But I considered my options and figured this was the best camera for me at the time. I considered getting a Canon or Nikon, but wasn’t ready to spend $600 or more for my first camera, heck i wasn’t even sure I would be good at it! Obviously to my surprise, I actually was good at it and I’m hoping to buy a better one soon!

As said above, if you’re interested in photography as a hobby, you probably wouldn’t mind buying a compact camera for a few hundred dollars. These cameras are still great cameras but they lack quality in resolution, they also have less options, which might be good for beginner. However, if you’re looking to find a more professional camera it’s a good idea to look for SLR type cameras. Listed below are some of the best cameras, you can buy online:

Pentax K 20 D

Price $1100

Resolution 4672 x 3104.

Pixels 14.6 million.

Olympus E-520.

Price $600.

Resolution 3648 x 2736.

Pixels 10.0 million

Nikon D60.

Price $600.

Resolution 3872 x 2592.

Pixels 10.2 million.

Canon EOS 450D

Price $800

Resolution 4272 x 2848.

Pixels 12.2 million.

Now these are considered medium format cameras, but there are also large format cameras such as Hasselblad, Canon and Nikon. The prices on these can range from $2500 on up to $20,000. In my opinion these large format cameras are for professionals only, unless of course you have $20,000 to throw around!

If you’re searching for cameras online have them be compact, or more professional you can search for topics relevant to digital cameras, digital photography, or buying cameras online. Good luck in your search!

The Best Digital Camera For The Money

Tagged Under : ,

Posted in Canon Cameras Articles by madee998

Nobody really wants, or needs the best of anything. It doesn’t matter, whether it’s digital cameras, automobiles, homes, or jet airplanes. What we really want and expect, is value for our money. If I’m going to spend $100 for a camera, then I better get $100 worth of features and quality from that camera. If I spend $1000 on a camera, then I better get $1000 worth back as well. If you follow a few simple rules, you’ll see how easy it is to get the best camera your money can buy.

Acclaimed science fiction author Theodore Sturgeon was famous for a couple of adages known as Sturgeons Laws. My favorite, and the one most relevant to our discussion is, “Ninety percent of everything is crap.” It’s simple, direct and brutally honest. It also really helps narrow down our search. If the camera your looking at is not on at least one top ten list, then drop it from your search. If it doesn’t have at least a four star review from someone, then drop if off your list. There are so many cameras to choose from these days, there’s really no need to settle for anything less then the best.

The second step, and a little more effort intensive, is the trial run phase. You need to try out as many of the cameras on your now very short list (thanks to Theodore) as possible. Spend a day, and blitz your favorite camera stores. Go to two or three, and just annoy and pepper the sales staff with as many questions and requests as you can. If you go during off hours, you should have plenty of time and space to try out all the cameras you want. See if you can cajole them into letting you take a few home to try out. After this exercise, your short list should be really short. Maybe even a list of 1.

Of course if the above seems like to much work for you slackers out there, here’s my short list of great cameras that are all money well spent. In the under $150 category, the Canon PowerShot A570IS. It’s a simple point and shoot with 4x zoom lens, image stabilization, and Canon reliability. For the portability minded ultra compact FaceBook crowd, you can’t go wrong with the Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Elph. Slightly less image quality then the A570IS, and slightly more expensive, but a very easy traveler. Another favorite compact of mine is the Olympus Stylus 790SW. The only waterproof, shockproof, dust proof, and freeze proof camera I know.

How to Use Camera Settings For Your Digital Photography

Tagged Under : , , , , , , ,

Posted in Canon Cameras Articles by madee998

Are you tired of having a hard time programming the right settings on your camera? This article will show you the basics to knowing how to use your camera to take great shots. When you follow this advice, you can focus more on composing shots, not worrying about if it’s going to be blurry or overexposed.

There are many settings on your camera and I’m going to dissect the most important ones for you. They are

- Shutter speed

- Aperture

- Focus

- ISO

Here’s how a camera works. You have a light sensitive medium or film inside your camera. The shutter speed opens letting light in through a hole called the aperture. This hole can be changed in size to let in a different amount of light. The shutter remains open and lets the light expose the film for however long you set it in the camera. After this, the shutter closes and you take your next shot.

Shutter speed

As mentioned above, the shutter controls the amount of time light is let in. It is measured in seconds or fractions of seconds. The longer the shutter time, the more light in. This is great for dark scenes that need more light to be seen. Faster shutter speeds, on the other hand, are good for very bright scenes like at the beach. When you use a long shutter speed be sure to use a tripod. Shutter speeds slower than 1/60 should have a tripod since the shutter is open for a long time and if the camera moves, blur will occur.

Aperture

This control is the opening in the camera. It controls how much light is let in. You can change it to have a very small hole or a very large hole. A large hole is something like f2.8 and a small hole is f16. They both have different effects on your shots. A large hole will give you a shallow depth of field where your subject is in focus but the background is blurred. A small hole is for everything to be in focus and is great for landscape shots or large fields that need everything in focus.

In general, the smaller the aperture, the more likely you’ll need a tripod. Why is this? Because the hole is smaller and less light is let in. This means the shutter speed (the amount of time the light is let in) must be set to a longer time.

Both the shutter speed and the aperture are mutually exclusive and effect each other. If you use a small aperture, you need a long shutter speed. If you use a large aperture, you’ll need a shorter shutter speed.

Focus

The focus is something that is very important for shots. If you have blurry shots its either because your using a slow shutter speed without a tripod or just aren’t focusing right. Manual focus is the best focus and is also more difficult.

ISO

The ISO on your camera controls the sensitivity to light of your film. An ISO of 800 is a very sensitive film. This means that you will be able to use it in darker scenes where less light is available. An ISO of 200 is much less sensitive and is good for scenes with plenty of light such as the beach.

Why Canon is a Better Pro Camera System Than Nikon

Tagged Under : , ,

Posted in Canon Cameras Articles by madee998

L-series Lens Line

I went to the Learnfest Photography Workshop for portrait photographers September 09 and most of the photographers were running around with a Nikon system. This peaked my curiosity.I had never really handled a Nikon before. When I was going to school at the International Academy of Design and Technology in Tampa, FL for my Digital Photography Degree, everyone had Canons. Canon was able to uplink to the Capture One processing program, and was recommended by all the staff (who are photographers current in their field). There was a student here and there with Nikon, but generally it was considered the bad apple and none of us Canon users went near them.

I was fascinated to see the amount of Nikon users at the workshop. I grabbed a Nikon from a photographer I had befriended during the workshop thus far. I have to admit I was bedazzled by the giant screen on the back. I’m using an older version on the Canon Mark series with a comparatively microscopic screen. When handling this I experienced the same giddiness of when I handled the newer Canon Mark series camera. Overall controls and handling were similar and some functions were a bit harder to figure out, but from this first handling Nikon appeared to be on the same level as Canon. Was I missing out on something? Why were so many photographers using Nikon? Should I make the switch?

Upon my arrival back home after the workshop I began some research. I talked to other photographers, Canon and Nikon users, to find out what they viewed as pros and cons of their camera system. I also began looking at products: Nikon bodies and lenses that were comparable to my current bag full of goodies. It was then that I realized there was nothing Nikon made that was comparable to my current lenses. I am an L series junkie (L lenses are Canons pro lens series).

Nikon has no professional lens line. Their lenses are by far less expensive than Canons, which in professional photography is not a good thing. Less expensive means less durable, which equals a shorter lens life. Though I have not had the experience of shooting with Nikon Lenses, with Canon less expensive also means lower quality photographs. I have come to the conclusion that Nikon users have chosen their camera system based on price. Their camera bodies are slightly less expensive than their Canon counterparts, and their lenses are all by far less expensive.

One of the first things I was taught in school, while purchasing my first set of photography tools, is that the quality of the lens is the most important thing. Don’t skimp on lenses.

Canon G9 Camera

Tagged Under : ,

Posted in Canon Cameras Articles by madee998

Our love of canon g9 camera seems to be because the results are instant as film is no longer required to be processed. With numerous functions they do not need the complicated mechanical components of a standard film camera. The storage used is similar to other computer based products so they are compatible with may other types of media we use to view images. Captured images are stored as bytes or binary information,

Just like conventional cameras, this type is furnished with a series of lenses that focus the light and creates the image that you want to capture. Instead of film the canon g9 camera captures the light with the aid of a system which records the light rays digitally. one is more expensive than the other and called a CCD or charge coupled device. Less expensive cameras us a complementary metal oxide semi-conductor or CMS device which does the same work of capturing an image and although some believe it could replace the CCD, this is not likely.

because CMOS sensors are less expensive and are easier to manufacture than CCD sensors. The canon g9 camera converts the light it receives like millions of minute solar cells and both the CCD and CMOS end up storing an image but just using a different method to do it. There is no need to feel confused by the range and functions these cameras have if you are armed with a few basic facts which are provided in this article. Image quality is important or it will be waste of time taking them so look for the highest megapixel model within your price range, with the prices continually dropping, high resolution cameras are now more affordable.

Unless your budget just won’t stretch that far, don’t buy a digital camera with only a digital zoom or you will find pictures that aren’t very clear when you print them, perhaps you can remember how grainy and blurred images become when you used your camcorder’s digital zoom function? Even a camera with a three times optical zoom is worth having. Rechargeable batteries can be charged up to a thousand times and save money, do you need any other advice for why they are best? canon g9 camera models come equipped with some sophisticated software that can create interesting shots, just like some of these here:

Sepia shotsTime lapse (i.e. one shot every 5 minutes for example)

Negative image

Most models these days can accept a storage card to accept more images because high megapixel models use up a great deal of memory. Although larger storage cards have plummeted in price, a 1GB card should be enough for most peoples needs,

Many people fall in love with a canon g9 camera but don’t ever consider how easy it will be to carry around with them so try not to make this mistake. Why carry around something that is going to make you neck ache when it is not necessary, There has only been room for a few basic hints and tips here but they should help with your choice of camera. The canon g9 camera has reinvented photography.

How to Sell Stock Photography – Tips on How to Take Microstock Photographs That Sell

Tagged Under : , ,

Posted in Canon Cameras Articles by madee998

Stock photography is based on having pictures already in stock: the pictures have already been taken, ready for printing and available to the buyer. In contrast, assignment pictures, where the camera-is-for-hire are still to be taken based on requirements. Another thing to remember is that stock photos are owned by the photographer, and the right to use is sold to the buyer. Whereas pictures from an assignment are owned by the buyer.

In stock photography, since the pictures are owned by the photographer, these are submitted to the stock photo agency in order to sell the rights for use. In effect the photos are in a shop waiting for a client to pass by. If the client sees a picture which fits his requirements, he buys the rights to use them.

The concept seems simple enough. The only thing the photographer has to do is take pictures of what the buyer would want. In this case, stock photography differs from most types of photography in that the pictures are generic and represent an idea or concept. The pictures tell a story or can serve as a background to some text for an ad campaign, for instance.

On the internet there are now lots of micro stock agency websites which handle this kind of business. A stock photo agency is a middle man between the photographer and the buyer. The buyer, usually an ad agency or a magazine or a design house, buys the rights to the picture for a specific use.

There are a lot of stock agencies on the internet and it’s only a matter of signing up and uploading the pictures, and to keep submitting more pictures.

How To Find Digital Camera Bargains

Tagged Under : , , , ,

Posted in Canon Cameras Articles by madee998

Recognizing a good digital bargain, is only part of the challenge. Knowing where to find them is the real trick. You could check the usual suspects. eBay or Craigslist perhaps? The problem is you and another million or so internet shoppers are thinking the same thing. Garage sales can be hit and miss, and chances are your buddy next door is not interested in selling his camera just because Sony and Canon have been unleashing new gadgets every other day. Don’t even think about buying from family, that almost never ends well. Unless of course you plan on leaving the country.

So, where and how does one go about find digital camera bargains? For starters look where no one else is looking. The best places, are usually the least obvious.

Amazon is not a bad choice, as most people think they only sell new stuff. The truth is, a lot of smaller independent sellers use their online site to move their inventory. There are plenty of used and discontinued cameras to found if you spend a little time surfing the site. The best part, is everything you buy is backed by the Amazon name, and their generous return policy.

A real hidden gem for bargains is discussion forums. There are all kind of forums related to digital cameras out there. Photography forums, Canon camera forums, Nikon camera forums, professional photographer forums, paparazzi forums, Pentax camera forums, nude photography forums, glamor photography forums, and so on and so on… Just Google around a bit and you’ll find them. Now because photographers are frequently upgrading their equipment, they often have older pristine condition camera gear to unload. These forums often have sell / trade / buy pages specifically for this purpose.

Face Detection Technology on Digital Cameras Works

Tagged Under : , , ,

Posted in Canon Cameras Articles by madee998

Yes, incredible as it sound, this fantastic technology does work. The Face detection technology, available from great manufacturers such as Canon, Pentax, FujiFilm and Sony, uses special and highly technical algorithms to judge the picture while you aim the camera. What is it looking for? I hear you ask, well it is looking for the shapes of human faces. When the digital camera locks onto a face, the camera automatically adjusts both the focus and the exposure to ensure you are provided with the best photo possible from the camera.

You will also be pleased to know that advancements are always being made with this technology, with some manufacturers actually managing to enhance their cameras to scan for a noses ears and chins to give a more comprehensive picture, this can normally work for parties upto 10. In normal circumstances, a scanned face has to cover around 10 percent of the height of the viewfinder LCD, remember that this requirement is important because this stops the camera from trying to focus on potential faces in the background.

The face identification process takes around four one-hundredths of a second, however remember that some manufacturers are better then others. Also note that you can turn off the face detection technology within most of the top of the range digital cameras when you are taking pictures without human subjects, although it is doubtful many people will turn off this feature because in a new report, it has been stated that at least 70% of all pictures taken have a human subject.

Face recognition can also be used for more than just the autofocus. Some cameras capture the location of the identified faces within each photo taken. This lets you zoom in and examine pictures after taking the shot, this is useful if for instance you want to check if everyone in the photo had their eyes open during the shot.

You will also not be surprised to hear, that continuous vast amounts of money is being invested in this type of technology, and in particular into developing these algorithms. The next stage of this technology involves a digital camera remembering a subject and tagging the person appropriately, next time the subject is seen, the camera will automatically tag the subject and adjust setting accordingly.

As for the question about animal faces, unfortunately current technology only focuses on human faces, however because of the love owners have of their pets, we will expect this to be a new addition into future digital camera.

As mentioned there are many high profile manufacturers who include this technology within their digital cameras, so if you are considering making a new purchase, ensure you do your homework and conduct a full comparison of the cameras. Once you have made your choice, enjoy!
